A hands-on approach to care
Injuries or post-surgical conditions of the musculoskeletal system often contribute to limited and painful motion. This can lead to pain and a decrease in daily activities. Physical therapists often use a variety of specific, hands-on techniques, called manual therapy, to improve mobility in joints and muscles.
Our highly trained clinicians assess whether the muscles and joints have hypo- (restricted) or hyper- (over-extended) mobility. Restrictions may be felt in the soft tissues and/or the joints. Sometimes both the soft tissue and joint are involved. This is why it takes a trained therapist to properly evaluate both.
Manual therapy can help:
- Modulate pain
- Increase range of motion
- Reduce or eliminate inflammation
- Facilitate movement
- Improve function
