Recovery and Reconditioning

Regain strength and stamina

A women sits on a yoga ball balancing and working on her strength while receiving support from her therapist.“I just don’t feel like myself.” It’s a concept everyone has experienced. Sometimes, the feeling passes. Often, though, it lingers.

Maybe it’s an overwhelming sense of fatigue. Maybe it’s a lack of strength or motivation triggered by an extended illness or hospital stay. Maybe it’s a chronic condition such as emphysema, asthma or cardiovascular disease that saps energy.

There are legitimate medical reasons behind that abstract feeling of lethargy and deconditioning. There’s also treatment that can get you back to feeling like yourself again.

What is Recovery and Reconditioning?

It is a holistic program created in consultation with physicians, psychiatrists, physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists. Designed individually for each patient, this specialized rehabilitation program focuses on rebuilding strength, endurance and mobility through targeted exercises and activities with the goal of returning you to a healthy and active lifestyle.

Our trained therapists assess various factors, including neurologic, cardiopulmonary and musculoskeletal, to build a plan of care. During each session, vital signs and symptoms are tracked to ensure your safety and progression.

Our program helps improve the following conditions:

  • Fatigue
  • Muscle pain
  • Loss of muscle and strength
  • Loss of mobility
  • Loss of energy
  • Loss of motivation for daily tasks
  • Shortness of breath
  • Heart disease
  • Emphysema
  • Asthma
  • Recurring headaches
  • Brain fog (concentration issues)
  • Memory issues
  • Joint pain
  • Anxiety
  • Sleeplessness

Why is Recovery and Reconditioning key for post-hospitalization patients?

If you’ve recently spent time in a hospital, the hope is you are healed and ready to return to your normal activities. The reality, however, is seven out of every 10 patients who are discharged from post-acute hospitalization experience a functional decline compared to when they were admitted. That’s often due to the amount of time patients are bedridden while hospitalized.

Functional decline is even more prominent in older patients. A study of more than 500 seniors hospitalized for acute, non-critical illnesses discovered that six months after their release, 53% could not walk a quarter mile and 61% had not resumed driving an automobile.

Those who experience functional declines after hospitalization ultimately can return to normal lives, but it takes hard work and an understanding of what must be accomplished.

Our Recovery and Reconditioning program provides expert assistance and instruction from compassionate therapists to further pave that road to recovery.

If you are rebounding from an energy-sapping illness, a lengthy hospital stay or simply don’t “feel yourself,” contact one of our centers and make an appointment today to have more enjoyable tomorrows.
